A village pub for eating well, drinking happily and staying a while
Sitting at the heart of the rural village of Berrick Salome, near Benson and Wallingford in south Oxfordshire, The Chequers is a Grade II listed country pub built of traditional brick and flint, with roots stretching back to the 17th century.
Inside, you’ll find cosy corners, open fires and a relaxed bar that’s just as welcoming for muddy boots and well-behaved dogs as it is for a leisurely pint. Beyond the bar, a generous dining room and private dining space make the pub equally suited to quiet suppers and larger gatherings. Outside, a sun-trap courtyard and expansive garden offer space to settle in and stay a while.
